This is where I will keep records of my thoughts and ideas behind the compositions, in so far as they are recorded. (I am originally a biochemist, hence the “lab book” to record my working.)
12-8 String Quartets
This set of string quartets were all written with the same time signature to play around with what was possible in compound time. They were written in late 2022-early 2023, but I revisited them in October 2023 when I uploaded them. The videos will appear here as I work my way through them!
Ostinato Pieces
The “Ostinato” pieces were some of the earliest I wrote, between March and August 2021. However I revisited them in early 2023 to play around with orchestration, and more generally to play around with what you can do with Logic Pro. So here are some thoughts on how they were written and then modified (recorded in September 2023).
Orchestral Cycles
These two pieces were written in September 2021. I revisited them to look back at the ideas that inspired them in July 2023.
String Quartets
These were written between October 2021 and February 2022 (numbers 1 to 16) and in October 2022 (numbers 17 to 19). I recorded my thoughts on them in June-July 2023, which was an interesting exercise after a bit of time had passed.
